Toronto – Last week, Eritrean president Iasais Afeworki gave a well over two hours long live interview with state-owned Eri-TV.
The interview covered a range of areas – domestic, regional and global. Ethiopia and the situation in the country was one the issues on which president Isaias remarked. His views were not seen in a positive light. There were views, including from groups that are not known to be Abiy Ahmed’s government supporters, who interpreted the president’s remark as “demeaning.”
Dawit, who seems to be a pro-Eritrean government activist and runs the Youtube channel Kendel Tube, appeared on Anchor TV to mark the president’s speech. He argues that the President’s interview was interpreted out of context. Also, he argued that Eritrea is not anti-Ethiopian and the tripartite agreement with Egypt and Somalia should not be seen in that context. He is of the view that if Eritrea was against Ethiopia, it would have harmed Ethiopia when the TPLF started war – a war that is said to have claimed the lives of about one million people.
