Toronto – In part two of his interview with Ethio News, Ethiopia’s former foreign Affairs Minister Gedu Andargachew remarked on the challenges Fano forces are facing.
He highlighted the internal and external challenges. He identified coordinating the struggle and uniting the various Fano forces under a single goal is an area of priority. Externally the massive resource that the Ethiopian government is deploying to quash the Fano movement and the uncoordinated, and meager support to Fano forces are identified as external challenges.
Getu pointed out that Fano primarily relies on farmers for its logistical and arms needs. He rejected the notion of “external support” as a sort of government propaganda.
Overall, Gedu is confident that Fano Forces will emerge stronger militarily and politically. He noted the apparent weakness as inherent to its nature – a movement that abruptly emerged in response to widespread attack against Amhara.
Another key point he raised is the importance of coordinating the struggle with Tigray and the rest of Ethiopians including ethnic Oromo whom the Abiy Ahmed government, as Gedu says, is attempting to mobilize by portraying the Fano Movement as an “anti-Oromo movement.”
